Following its mission to promote the strengthening and development of comprehensive economic, scientific, technical, and cultural relations, Intersputnik strives to develop international cooperation in any possible areas, not only limited to the satellite communications industry. The Organization initiated the publication of the book “Colourful Universe: National Traditions and Crafts”, which shows examples of folk-art items from all Member States. High-resolution photos are supplemented with detailed descriptions of crafts and comments from professional art experts and historians. The pages of the book depict unique national decorations, costumes, interior details, festive household items and much more.

The publication is made in the form of a colourful deluxe album in English. Intersputnik aspires to contribute to the development of international cultural exchange by presenting to a wide audience the diversity of the cultural heritage and traditions of Member States located in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

The cover of the book features a fragment of a carpet sketched by the young Azerbaijani artist Vusalya Yunusova. Her highly emotional work is a reflection of young people's perception of the possibilities and inspirational beauty of the Space. It encapsulates the bold energy of the youth, thus becoming the mascot of the Youth Far Beyond Borders project, which has been implemented by Intersputnik since 2022.

In the preface to the book, Intersputnik’s Director General Ksenia Drozdova noted: “We saw our task as making our readers to be aware of the beauty of national crafts, and the directions of creative thought of artisans from the countries that are members of our Organization. This is our contribution to the modern understanding of cosmism. We believe that cultural ties, sustained traditions and the beauty of masterpieces created by the peoples inhabiting different continents of the Earth will be the foundation for the cities of the future on distant planets.”

It was the human desire to create the beautiful, something that no one else could do before, that brought humanity into space. Thoughtful and careful study of various nations traditions and the interpenetration of cultures unites humanity, increases the level of mutual understanding, trust and respect. And, in the end, this enhances the effectiveness of joint activities, thus contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal No. 17: “Partnerships for the goals.”
